Oblate Sisters Clara D'Amico and Chiarina Antonucci
Oblate Sisters Clara D'Amico and Chiarina Antonucci first came to the United States in 1946, with the help of Marian Antonucci, brother of Sr. Chiarina. They were requesting financial aid for their war torn convents in Italy. At the request of Bishop James A. McFadden, ten more sisters arrived in Youngstown on November 5, 1949 to serve in an apostolate designated by the Bishop.

Today the Oblate Sisters live and work in the Youngstown Diocese in Ohio. The sisters staff two priest retirement homes; they conduct a preschool and kindergarten and minister in parishes. Their headquarters is Villa Maria Teresa. This is a peaceful 19-acre property, which is most conducive to prayer and contemplation. On this land there are the main convent, a priest retirement home, a preschool and the novitiate.

BRAZIL, SOUTH AMERICA

Oblate Sisters in Brazil
In 1966 Pope Paul VI challenged all religious congregations to send some of their members into the mission territories in order to assist the Church in its evangelization. In response to the Holy Father’s request, five Oblate Sisters were sent to Brazil in order to minister to the poor of that country. Since then, numerous Brazilian women have followed their call to become Oblate Sisters.

INDIA
Through an act of divine providence, it became clear to the Oblate Sisters that their ministry to priests was deeply needed in India. Their charism perfectly responded to the desires of the local Indian bishop who had a dream of one day founding a religious order of women, which would be dedicated to praying for and ministering to his priests. Much to his delight, this congregation had already been founded. Thus at the invitation of this bishop, the Oblate Sisters planted the seeds of their charism on Indian soil in July 1992. Today, many young and enthusiastic women have generously offered their lives to Jesus for the holiness of priests as Oblate Sisters.

AFRICA
While plans were being made to establish an Indian foundation, Bishop Ferrazzetta, an Italian missionary serving in West Africa also discovered the beautiful and important charism of the Oblate Sisters. At his request, the Oblate Sisters also began a foundation in Guenea Bissau, West Africa in July 1992.
